SMM November 21st: International Aluminum Association (IAI) data released on Tuesday showed that global primary aluminum production in October increased by 4% year-on-year to 5.41 million tons. This figure also rose 2% from 5.301 million tons in September, while daily production fell 1.2% year-on-year to 174,600 tons per day. During the period from January to October 2018, world production increased by 0.7% year-on-year to 53.37 million tons, compared with 53.067 million tons in the same period last year. China's primary aluminum production in October increased by 6.8% year-on-year and 1.3% quarter-on-quarter. During the period from January to October, China produced 302.27 million tons of primary aluminum, slightly lower than last year's 302.31 million tons. In October, European primary aluminum production was 664,000 tons, an increase of 0.3% year-on-year and 3.1% quarter-on-quarter. North American primary aluminum production was 323,000 tons, down 3.6% year-on-year, but up 4.2% from the previous month. In Asia, except for China, primary aluminum production rose by 7.1% year-on-year in October, up 3.6% from the previous month to 377,000 tons. In the Middle East, aluminum production rose by 5.1% year-on-year and by 3% quarter-on-quarter to 450,000 tons, up from 437,000 tons in September.
